Izmailovo Park is one of the largest parks of the kind in the world (6 times larger then the central park in New York). Its history is closely connected with the House of Romanovy. In 17th-18th centuries it was a summer residence of the tsar family where in 1666 Tsar Aleksey Mikhailovich organised an agricultural paradise with arable farming, bee- and poultry-keeping and other rural pleasures. Tsar’s famous gardens became the prototype for future botanic gardens in Russia. Several buildings of the 18 th-19th century are still preserved here.

Peter the Great spent his childhood in Izmailovo learning the mastery of sailing and war waging. As a boy he trained two regiments, Semenovsky and Izmailovsky, especially recruited to amuse the young tsar; later these "amusement regiments" became the basis of Russian regular troops.

As almost every park in Moscow, Izmailovo Park is a place of mass fetes though many people come here simply to enjoy nature, sun and bird singing.

On the territory of thisp park Izmailovo museum is situated.
