Moscow Museum Guide

[edit] Description

Izmailovo museum is a branch of the State Historical Museum, situated in Izmailovsky Park. Izmailovo village is mentioned in chronicles since the late-14th century as a family estate of Izmailovy boyars. Later this picturesque country estate was transferred to the royal family, and in the 17th century it became one of the favourite residences of Russian tsars. In 1980s the whole estate was completely renovated, and Izmailovo became a branch of the State Historical Museum. Unfortunately, not many of the old buildings were lucky to be preserved till now. Among the most prominent buildings are the Cathedral of the Intercession and Mostovaya Bashnya (Bridge Tower).
