The International Roerich Museum is located in a beautiful manor of Lopukhiny family, a landmark of XVII-XIX centuries, which is situated right behind the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum. The Museum is a cultural center of Roerich family, which aim is to spread Roerich's ideas about art and culture among people, and it is clearly shown in the motto “Peace Through Culture”. All members of Roerich family were gifted, outstanding people. Helena Roerich, Nicholas Roerich’s wife, was a talented pianist, author of many books, including “The Foundations of Buddhism” and a Russian translation of Helena Blavatskaya's “Secret Doctrine”. Their eldest son, Yury, became a remarkable Russian orientalist, philologist, ethnographer, who spoke twenty-two languages being only twenty years old, and the youngest, Svyatoslav, was a great landscapist and portraitist. As for Nikolay Roerich himself, he was a remarkable personality, an archeologist, an artist and a philosopher.
The Museum will guide you through their whole life-story, illustrating it with maps, paintings by Nikolay and Yury Roerichs, a great number of books, rarities and miscellaneous belongings of the Roerich family.
