Guide to Moscow Streets

Rozhdestvenka runs down to the centre of Moscow. House No. 11 in this lovely street nurtures future Shekhtels, Kozakovs and Bazhenovs – it is Moscow Architectural Institute established in 1933. In the 16th century bell-ringers ("zvonari") from Kremlin settled here and it is still seen in the name of the Zvonarsky Pereulok and in the name of the St. Nikolay’s Church in Zvonari. The first church appeared on this place in the 17th century but 150 years later it was reconstructed to combine features of old architecture with late baroque style.
