Guide to Moscow Streets

Maly Kazenny pereulok, once famous for a hospital for the poor, runs parallel to Pokrovka. Here in the middle of the 19th century doctor F. Gaaz, "the holy doctor", helped hundreds of people in need. Gaaz was also the head doctor of Moscow prisons, and criminals adored him for his love of people and kindness to outcasts. His motto "Don’t be late to do good" is written on the monument to this great person.
