Guide to Moscow Streets
Kuznetsky Most connects Bolshaya Lubyanka and Neglinnaya. "Most" stands for "bridge" in Russian - this street used to be a bridge over Neglinka river. Today both the bridge and the river are history.
Kuznetsky Most used to be fashion "heaven": all the noblemen would come here to buy a hat or a dress of the latest style. Mostly Frenchmen were owners of the shops and that saved Kuznetsky Most when Napoleon army set Moscow on fire before leaving the city: French soldiers had mercy on their compatriots. The House of Models (No.14) is all that is left of Kuznetsky Most’s splendid fashion past. At the corner of Kuznetsky most and Neglinnaya there is house No.9 in where in 1826 Frenchman Trinkle opened a legendary restaurant "Yar". Alexander Pushkin and his friends were among its visitors. House No.11 is the right place for those who are looking for a present. It is Moscow House of Artist with a little market inside offering all kinds of knick-knacks.
