Andrey Rublev

Andrey Rublev is a a prominent Russian icon-painter. It is uknown where and when he was born and who his parents were, when and where he took monastic vows. Among his most famous works are such icons as Trinity, the Saviour, some icons in the iconostasis of the Annunciation Cathedral in Kremlin. According to historical evidence his last work was “fascinating pictures” which decorated the stone church of Andronnikovsky Monastery. Andrey Rublev died about the year 1430 and was buried not far from the Saviour Cathedral of this monastery. Since the 17th century he was one of the locally revered Moscow saints; in 1988 he was officially canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church.
