Kasabian (UK)
July 15, 20:00
Adrenaline Stadium Adrenaline Stadium

KasabianKasabian took the British press by storm in the early 2000s by mixing traces of the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, and Primal Scream with Oasis-sized confidence and DJ Shadow-influenced electronics. Named after Linda Kasabian, Charles Manson's getaway driver turned state witness, the Leicester-based group also stole a page from the Band by moving into a remote farmhouse to brew its music. Communal life and a slew of shared influences produced an electronic, rock-oriented sound that harked back to the Madchester days of baggy pants and druggy dancing. Kasabian expanded that sound on later albums, but the band's foundation remained rooted in swaggering, fragmented dance textures and boisterous rock & roll.

With his acerbic approach to interviews, swaggering lead singer Tom Meighan quickly became a darling of the press during the band's infancy, and Kasabian's revolutionary logos and sleeve art only added to the excitement. Fold-out poster sleeves, 10" versions, and hand-stenciled covers accompanied singles like "Club Foot," "L.S.F," and "Processed Beats." The hype paid off as Kasabian's self-titled debut cracked the Top Five in October 2004, just one month after its U.K. release. Four singles landed in the Top 20 within six months, establishing the bandmates as rock & roll royalty in the process.

Founding guitarist Chris Karloff left the lineup two years later, citing creative differences with the remaining members. Kasabian's second album, Empire, had already been recorded, and guitarist Jay Mehler was brought aboard to replace Karloff during live performances. (Mehler eventually became an official member in 2008.) Empire was ultimately released in August 2006 and debuted atop the U.K. charts, with the title track soon becoming the band's third Top Ten hit. The band took home an NME Award in 2007 and began work on another album later that year. Dan the Automator was brought in to share production duties with Serge Pizzorno, and the resulting U.K. chart-topper West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum appeared in 2009. Automator would return for the 2011 album Velociraptor!, featuring the leadoff single "Switchblade Smiles."

Kasabian had chosen to name their new album Velociraptor! because as guitarist and amateur palaeontologist Sergio Pizzorno explain: "Velociraptors used to hunt in packs of four," he reasoned. "They were the rock'n'roll band of the dinosaurs." Kasabian started work on their fourth album, Velociraptor!, in November 2010. It was revealed in a number of interviews that some songs were already written. One track, titled "Green Fairy," which featured on the London Boulevard soundtrack, is present on the record under the name "La Fée Verte", but the album version is different to the soundtrack version. In June 2011, Kasabian closed the Isle of Wight Festival. They also headlined Rockness festival and played at Rock Werchter in July 2011. The band confirmed that the album will be released on 19 September 2011.

"Switchblade Smiles," the first song to be heard from the forthcoming album Velociraptor! was exclusively played on UK radio on 7 June 2011 during Zane Lowe's show on Radio 1. The title and release date of the fourth album was also confirmed on the show. This first single from the album is available for visitors to listen to on the Kasabian website, and is available as a download for who pre-order the album. Two tracks from the album ("Velociraptor" and "Switchblade Smiles") were premiered throughout the four-date warm-up tour including playing at the Leeds O2 Academy before the RockNess and Isle of Wight festivals in June 2011. A track from the album "Days Are Forgotten" was due for radio release on 22 July 2011. However, it surfaced online the night before. The album failed to crack the Billboard Top 200 charts upon its first week of release in the United States.

On 27 November 2011, Kasabian performed "Goodbye Kiss" during the BBC's Formula 1, 2011 closing season montage. In the same month, the band went on a full tour of the UK, including two sold out gigs at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, supported at the shows by Miles Kane and Australian band ME. On 31 December 2011, Kasabian played a New Year's Eve concert entitled "NYE:Rewired" at the O2 Arena, London. The event was streamed live on YouTube. Following early 2012 dates in Japan, Australia, and Europe, Kasabian launched their North American leg in Dallas on 12 March, with 19 dates in U.S. and Canada until late April. The band will headline also UK festivals T In The Park and the Reading and Leeds Festivals, in July and August respectively.

It was announced on 16 May on the Kasabian website that their 15 December 2011 show that was filmed at the O2 in London will be screened in over 60 cinemas in the UK and Ireland on 30 May 2012 for one night only. The film, titled "Kasabian Live! Live At The O2" is distributed by Altive Media and Eagle Vision.

On 29 June 2012 Kasabian performed at the Main Square festival in Arras France. Strangely at the end of the set, Tom Meighan returned to the stage without the band and performed The Beatles "She Love You" unaccompanied, something that he had also done three days earlier in Athens, Greece and on 16 June in Denmark at the Northside Festival. On 8 July 2012, Kasabian performed at the T in the Park Festival, returning to the stage for a three song encore featuring "Vlad the Impaler," "Switchblade Smiles," and "Fire," which culminated in a repeat of Tom Meighan's solo performance of "She Loves You."

In last year Kasabian was a headliner of Russia's brand spanking new SVOY Subbotnik Festival, an open air festival in Moscow's Gorky Park. Kasabian's performance was a culmination of the festival. This summer the band will be more powerful, more load, more charismatic! Don't miss!
