08.10.15  17:50 Return to the Stars
The new show in the Great Star Hall is actually a breath-taking journey through time and space. Casting a glance back into the 1930s, we will learn the story of the first Planetarium in Russia. We will get to the North Pole, and watch a rare and beautiful natural phenomenon, Aurora Borealis. We will land on the Moon and find our Earth in its skies. Flight to the far away giant planets will give us a chance to observe the Galilean Moons and the Great Red Spot of Jupiter. But the most incredible thing will happen in the vicinity of Saturn, where we will plunge into the icy kingdom of its numerous rings, and get caught by the rhythm of their motion. Then, of course, we will return to Earth to watch the breaking of a new day, but on the way we are yet to enjoy some unforgettable celestial performances: the Sun and the Moon eclipses. Finding ourselves far away from our own planet will help us understand how dear to us our familiar earthly world is. A small crystal blue planet, lost in the vastness of the Universe that is a cozy cosmic home to us. We are the earthlings, and must preserve this fragile vessel, for the life it carries to continue! Duration of the show: 40 minutes. Program languages are English and Russian. Age restrictions: 6+.

12.12.15  19:00 Supervolcanoes
The scene was 74,000 years ago, on the island of Sumatra. A volcanic eruption triggered the sudden and violent collapse of a vast regional plateau. Toba, as the volcano is known today, was the largest volcanic eruption in the last 25 million years. But Earth has seen far larger. 250 million years ago, an eruption in what's now Siberia lasted a million years and was probably responsible for the greatest episode of mass extinction in Earth's history. Supervolcanoes is an immersive planetarium show that looks back at rare classes of eruptions that have marshaled the energy that lurks, like a sleeping dragon, beneath the surface of planet Earth. The program moves beyond Earth to explore the impact of giant volcanic eruptions around our solar system. Audiences will fly down to Neptune's frigid moon Triton, and onto the ultimate volcanic world: Jupiter's moon Io. On a visit to a legendary North American hot spot, Yellowstone National Park, the film asks: can a supervolcano erupt in our time? Program languages are English, Russian. Previous to the main show the Universarium program is shown. Age restrictions: 12+.
