 It is warm, vibrant voice that declares Tecora Rogers' allegiance to gospel music throughout her life, starting with the angelic choir of her church at the age of 6. Low guttural gospel chest notes combined with high scat-like head jazz notes give Tecora a cross-the-board strength which makes room for her to explore all directions of the spectrum - extending melody lines and bringing multi-layers of aesthetic understanding to the pieces. Years of performance in Singapore, Bangkok, Shanghai, France, Italy and Switzerland came to an end when Tecora realized it was time to return to her place of birth. In 2003, she founded "Chicago Spirituals". Tecora Rogers and the Chicago Spirituals is a gospel group that blends contemporary and traditional gospel. The group is anchored by international favorite Tecora Rogers who has toured extensively throughout Europe performing gospel with the Shirley Wahls Singers and as a solo artist performing jazz and gospel. In 2003, Tecora was offered the opportunity to bring her own group to Europe and she established the Chicago Spirituals. The group completed their first European tour successfully in December 2004. They performed in several cities throughout Italy. Their tour was so successful they were immediately invited back to perform in 2005 at many of the same venues as well as others. Although there were a couple of group member changes, the 2005 tour was more successful and introduced the Chicago Spirituals' first CD. In 2008 Tecora was invited to teach gospel music at the Moscow College of Improvised Music. Tecora also uses broadcast media to showcase her talent and expand her reach. Since 1996, she has hosted her own television program, The Tecora Rogers Show, which airs every Monday on Channel 19 in Chicago. Tecora continues to extensively tour throughout the world as well as teach master classes in gospel, jazz and voice.
