19:00 Hollywood Gala Night
Don't miss the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's phenomenal film music extravaganza - a spectacular evening Hollywood Gala Night for movie fans of all ages that promises you a wide variety of classic film scores. An annual sell-out success, this thrilling concert is not one to be missed. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will play some favourite pieces from both recent Hollywood blockbusters and timeless classics including memorable themes from The Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, Jurassic Park, Out of Africa, Superman, Pirates of the Caribbean, Schindler's List, Harry Potter, Star Wars, The Deer Hunter, Dances with Wolves and more. Founded in 1946 by Sir Thomas Beecham, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has enjoyed more than sixty-five years of success worldwide, giving first-class performances of a wide range of musical repertoire with artists of the highest calibre. Under the inspired leadership of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Charles Dutoit, the Orchestra continues to flourish, maintaining and building on a demanding schedule of performances, tours, community and education work, and recordings. Throughout its history, the Orchestra has been directed by a number of distinguished conductors, including Rudolf Kempe, Antal Dorati, Andre Previn, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Yuri Temirkanov and, more recently, Daniele Gatti. Today the Orchestra enjoys the support of high-ranking conductors, with Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Charles Dutoit supported by Pinchas Zukerman as Principal Guest Conductor and Grzegorz Nowak as Principal Associate Conductor. Central to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's thriving concert schedule is its prestigious annual series at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall. In 2013/14 series, the Orchestra is excited to be working with artists such as Charles Dutoit, Kirill Karabits, Stephen Hough, Steven Isserlis and classical guitarist John Williams. At Cadogan Hall, the Orchestra's London home in Chelsea, the intimate and luxurious surroundings provide the perfect concert atmosphere, with forthcoming performances featuring Grzegorz Nowak, Alessandro Fabrizi and Pinchas Zukerman. Completing the Orchestra's programme of London concerts is a series of monumental performances at the iconic Royal Albert Hall, ranging from large-scale choral and orchestral works to themed evenings of well-known repertoire. Frequently found in the recording studio, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra records extensively for film and television. So the Orchestra was the first one which has performed and recorded soundtracks for such movies as Pirates of the Caribbean, West Side Story, The Lord of the Rings among others. The great Orchestra's performances in Europe, USA and Australia have began from the show "Star Wars In Concert" which was visited by two million people over the world. The originality of the Hollywood Gala Night is that it is the great musical history of Hollywood. More info
