The Suzanne Farrell Ballet and "Moscow Ballet Theater" present a collaboration project "The evening of one-act ballets" which will be dedicated to George Balanchine. The program includes such Balanchine's ballets as "Monumentum Pro Gesualdo" and "Movements for Piano and Orchestra". Suzanne Farrell was the prima ballerina of the New York City Ballet who had been a longtime choreographic inspiration for George Balanchine. During her almost 30-year career she performed 75 roles in 70 ballets. One of the most celebrated ballerinas of modern times Miss Farrell retired from performing in 1989, six years later after Blanchine's death. She gave her last performance in "Vienna Waltzes" and "Sophisticated Lady". Farrell made her last bow to "Mr. B" in the presence of Lincoln Kirstein and Peter Martin. She now restages Balanchine ballets all over the world. Their famously unconsummated relationship lives on in an Oscar-nominated Suzanne Farrell: Elusive Muse - a relationship so consuming, that she says she considered suicide. Under the Artistic Direction of George Balanchine's most celebrated muse, The Suzanne Farrell Ballet continues to flourish as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts' own ballet company in Washington, D.C. Combining her vast artistic strengths and teaching gifts with her deep, inimitable insight into the Balanchine canon, Ms. Farrell carries forth "Mr. B's" enduring legacy - sharing his profound vision and influential works with world audiences via company tours, artistic partnerships, and educational residencies.
