Program: Debargue, Violin Sonata; Shostakovitsh, Trio No 2 op 67; Debargue, Cello Sonata; Debargue, Trio for violin, cello and piano. In 2015 the French pianist Lucas Debargue became the most talked-about artist of the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition. Despite being placed 4th, his muscular and intellectual playing, combined with an intensely poetic and lyrical gift for phrasing, earned him the coveted Moscow Music Critics’ Award as ”the pianist whose incredible gift, artistic vision and creative freedom have impressed the critics as well as the audience”. He was the only musician across all disciplines to do so. Soon after the competition Debargue was signed by Sony Classical, and recorded a live recital for his debut release with music by Ravel, Liszt, Chopin and Scarlatti in his native city of Paris. David Castro-Balbi was born into a family of long musical tradition. He began playing the violin at the age of five at Besançon Conservatory in Bernard Mauppin’s class where he got his diploma in musical studies (DEM) at the age of 13. In 2007 he was accepted at Paris Conservatory in the class of Larissa Koloss. He received his Prix Supérieur unanimously two years later. Also in 2009 he entered Svétlin Roussev’s class at the CNSMDP. Furthermore, he is a founding member of Trio Suyana which got accepted in ‘Quatuor Ysave’ chamber music at Paris Conservatory. He was awarded several 1st Prizes in national and international solo violin contests and chamber music. He won 1st Prize at the Young Artist Competition in Colorado (USA) and at the Mirecourt International Violin Contest where he played Mendelssohn’s Concerto in E Major conducted by Jacques Mercier with the National Orchestra of Lorraine.
