"Piano Music Nights" series. Eliso Virsaladze (piano) will perform Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt. Eliso Virsaladze may not have name recognition of many of her keyboard contemporaries, but she is among the most highly respected performers of her generation, especially among fellow pianists, both past and present. Sviatoslav Richter, for example, touted her as the finest Schumann interpreter of her time. Besides Schumann, Virsaladze is well known for her Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Brahms, Rachmaninov, and Prokofiev. She also regularly appears in chamber music concerts with such artists as Natalia Gutman and the Borodin Quartet. Since 1967 she has taught music, and among her students are Boris Berezovsky and Aleksandar Madzar. Virsaladze has made numerous recordings for such labels as Melodiya and EuroArts. In the new century, Virsaladze remained active on all fronts. Her 2003 appearance at the 300th anniversary Gala Concert in St. Petersburg, where she gave a scorching performance of the Ravel Concerto for the Left Hand, was issued on an acclaimed EuroArts DVD in 2004. Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra performs P. Tchaikovsky, Lovrelo and Mendelssohn. Conducted by Yury Bashmet. Soloists: Alexei Naydenov (cello), Andrew Poskrobko (violin), Michael Ashurov (violin), Artem Dirul (violin), Olga Kolgatina (violin), Nina Macharadze (viola), Alexander Ilatovsky (viola), Alexei Tolstov (cello), Maxim Khlopiev (bass). The Moscow Soloists chamber ensemble was founded by the world renowned violist Yuri Bashmet in 1992 including young string players nominated by their professors as the most accomplished and gifted graduates of the Moscow Conservatory. Moscow Soloists has established itself, in the words of the international press, as "one of the best in the world" ("Davar", Israel), "the voice of the nation" ("IL Tempo", Italy). The ensemble has performed in forty countries on five continents and regularly tours Europe, America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, appearing in such prestigious concert venues as Carnegie Hall in New York, Musikverein in Vienna, Concertgebow in Amsterdam, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Philharmonic Hall in Berlin, Barbican in London, Tivoli in Copenhagen, Cite de la Music in Paris, Academia Santa Cecilia in Rome, and many others. The repertory of the Moscow Soloists is rich and diverse, comprised of masterpieces from the Classical canon, the works of contemporary composers, and works from the past which are less frequently performed. The programs of the Moscow Soloists are often marked by premieres of interesting and challenging new works by living composers. Conducted by Vladimir Jurowski. The State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia for 75 years has been one of the leading orchestras of Russia and a special pride of this country's musical culture. On 27 October 2005, the name of Evgeny Fedorovich Svetlanov became part of the orchestra's official name in recognition of his invaluable contribution to Russian musical culture. In 2011 Vladimir Jurowski is appointed an artistic director of Svetlanov orchestra. The orchestra's creative biography is a succession of triumphant achievements that have secured its permanent place in the annals of world culture. The youngest ever laureate of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1994, Alexander Ghindin has established himself as a pianist of distinction. In 1999 he gained Second Prize in the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels and in 2007 First Prize in the Cleveland International Piano Competition in the United States, with, in consequence, more than fifty concerts. In July 2010 he won the First Prize at the International Piano Competition of Santa Catarina, Brazil. In 1999 Alexander Ghindin joined the Moscow State Philharmonic as soloist, and has performed in numerous countries. In 2006 he was named an Honored Artist of Russia and in the 2010/2011 season was engaged as the Artistic Director of four festivals: in Moscow, in Perm (Russia), in Minsk (Belorussia) and as International Artistic Director of the Swedish Royal Festival in Stockholm. His international career has brought collaboration with leading conductors and orchestras. His recordings include Rachmaninov's Piano Concertos # 1 and 4 in their original versions with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra under Vladimir Ashkenazy. He has also appeared on television and in broadcasts in Russia, Germany, Belgium, Japan, France, Luxembourg, Poland, and elsewhere. MMDM Svetlanov Hall |
