The Animals with Eric Burdon is the third band after The Beatles and The Rolling Stones that comprised the global "British invasion". The Animals got their start as a blues and R'n'B band, formed in Newcastle in 1963. After their first performance, the press nicknamed them "animals" and that's how they got their name. A year after the band moved to London and was signed to Columbia Records (EMI subsidiary) that released their debut single "Baby Let Me Take You Home". It was their own arrangement of the folk song "House of the Rising Sun" (a real smash hit) that propelled the Animals to fame. It was mostly Eric Burdon's credit as well as Alan Price who authored this brilliant arrangement. But disagreements resulted in the Animals' splitting up in 1966. The band stayed on the summit of glory for two years only. Burdon started his solo career and moved to USA. The band re-united for short periods several times. The special guest of this forcoming concert will be Steve Cropper, the American guitarist, songwriter and record producer which best known as the guitarist of the Stax Records house band, Booker T. & the M.G.'s, and has backed artists such as Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas and Johnnie Taylor. He later gained fame as a member of the Blues Brothers band. Rolling Stone lists him 36th on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. Mojo ranks Cropper as the second-best guitarist ever. His nickname is "The Colonel". MMDM Svetlanov Hall |
