Performer - State Symphony Capella of Russia. Soloists: Alexander Rozhdestvensky (violin), Tatyana Fedotova (soprano), Kirill Fillin (bass), Ekaterina Bolshakova (mezzo-soprano), Igor Vyalih (tenor). Gennady Rozhdestvensky conducts and comments. The program includes compositions by Mozart and Bartok. Gennady Rozhdestvensky is the recipient of the French Legion of honour, of the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun, and an Honorary Member of the Stockholm and British Academies. For many years, he also headed the Moscow Radio Orchestra and became the first Soviet conductor, ever to be appointed principal conductor of various foreign orchestras: the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and the Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Rozhdestvensky has maintained his reputation for adventurous programming in his many recordings and live performances. Known for his balanced and refined interpretations of Romantic and twentieth century music, he premiered numerous twentieth century works. Sasha Rozhdestvensky is considered to be one of Russia’s finest young violinists. Yehudi Menuhin pronounced him to be "one of the most talented and refined violinists of his generation," while the legendary violinist Ivry Gitlis said of him: "He belongs to the great line of outstanding artists. His approach and relationship to music and the violin is intense, highly sensitive and intelligent." He has appeared internationally with leading orchestras and world famous conductors. Sasha Rozhdestvensky has recorded numerous works for the THESIS and CHANDOS labels, appeared at major festivals, and has performed in all of the world's major halls, always to great acclaim.
