19:30 Moon Hooch (USA)
The second event celebrates the jazz legacy of Vremena Goda, which was a popular musical venue in the late 1960s. On September 10, New York band Moon Hooch will perform, blending jazz improvisation with electronic music. Still able to convey the drive of their early street performances, the band describe their vibrant dance-oriented style as ‘cave music’, as opposed to house. Playing at Garage they will aim to get the audience dancing. A special menu inspired by the band’s food project Cooking in the Cave will be available at Garage Café throughout the day. Moon Hooch are a trio consisting of two saxophonists Mike Wilbur and Wenzl McGowan and percussionist James Muschler, all former students of The New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. Their first live performance took place in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2010. The band recorded their debut album in 24 hours. Their last recording, This Is Cave Music, was released in 2014 and was positively received by the critics as an ‘evocative, layered album that flows from '80s synth pop to dubstep to avant-garde instrumentals’.
